Who we are

Council of Single Mothers and their Children (CSCM) is a non-profit organisation founded 57 years ago by single mothers to secure a better life for women parenting alone and their children. We achieve change by championing the agency, rights and needs of single mothers and their children and providing specialist support services, most significantly through the Support Line.

Single mothers turn to CSMC for support, information and assistance to secure basic human rights such as financial security; affordable housing; flexible work and education opportunities; legal protection; and health, safety and wellbeing for themselves and their children. We advocate on these issues, informed by our service users, 6500 historical and current members, and strong social media following.

The Policy Officer will have demonstrated experience in policy research, analysis and submission writing and a qualification in public policy, social policy, law, social sciences, community development or a related field, or equivalent experience. They will work closely with the General Manager and CEO to enhance advocacy impact.

Working from a self-help model, CSMC employs only women who are or have been single mothers. This falls within the exception contained in section 28 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. First Nations single mothers and those from culturally diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Please contact Nina Springle, General Manager at [email protected] using the subject line: Policy Officer enquiry via EthicalJobs or 0407 354 787 to discuss the role further.
