The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
The MCV is responsible for delivery of 26 of the 227 recommendations from the Royal Commission into Family Violence (RCFV) and is impacted by the delivery of approximately 100 other RCFV recommendations. MCV has a strong commitment to improving the safety of families living with violence engaged with the court and working as part of an integrated response. The implementation of these recommendations will strengthen MCV’s capacity to achieve this goal.
The FVPPU leads service excellence in family violence responses within the MCV and is responsible for the development of family violence policy and management of the relevant programs and initiatives to deliver on Ending Family Violence: Victoria’s 10 Year Plan for Change.
Following a successful pilot at Frankston Magistrates’ Court, funding has been allocated to expand the family violence pre-court legal advice service offering. The proposed model incorporates close collaboration between Victoria Legal Aid (VLA), Community Legal Centres (CLC), Victoria Police and Magistrates’ Court staff working together to resolve family violence related matters prior to the court hearing day.
The Client Service Officer is responsible for providing an appropriate and timely response to enquiries and requests relating to the MCV family violence jurisdiction. The role will engage directly with court users and partner agencies to provide general information regarding court hearings, engaging with parties to collect sensitive information, and to support early referrals to legal and family violence support services.
You are an enthusiastic administrative or client service officer, with a passion for improving service delivery and enhancing court user experience.
You may be studying social work and law and are looking for a role which offers flexible work arrangements, including working from home, part-time and/or flexible working hours.
