Position Summary

The Senior Finance Officer will support the Executive Manager, Operations & Finance in providing reliable, timely, and accurate financial information by maintaining accurate departmental and administered accounting operations, processing of day-to-day financial transactions, and preparation of monthly reports for internal stakeholders.

The Senior Finance Officer liaises with staff and provides robust advice and assistance on a wide range of finance-related policies, procedures and initiatives supporting the achievement of strategic goals.

We represent more than 150 community service organisations, students and individuals working across the continuum of services from early years through to the child protection and youth justice systems.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Accounting:

  • Assist in the annual financial audit and the preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Prepare grant acquittals.
  • Assist in preparation of statutory and regulatory returns e.g. Fringe benefits tax, ABS surveys, BAS, PAYG.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of registers.

Management Accounting:

  • Manage end of month accounting process.
  • Assist with the monitoring of revenue and expenditure to budget.
  • Prepare monthly internal management and project reports and analysis.
  • Assist with monthly financial Board reports.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation, reviews and forecasts.
  • Assistance in Accounts Payable and Receivable tasks when required.
  • Undertake ad-hoc financial analysis.

Systems Accounting:

  • Maintain accounting systems, including chart of accounts, report development, automated processes, system integration.
  • Assist in the implementation of system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Assist and manage the creation, documentation and implementation of Finance and Operations Policies and Procedures.
  • Other reasonable duties as requested by the CEO and Managers.

Payroll Administration:

  • Ensure fortnightly payroll is managed in a timely and accurate manner and maintained in conjunction with the external payroll providers.
  • Award Interpretation, National Employment Standards, Adherence to all Statutory requirements.
  • New employee set-up, including entering employee’s pay rates, banking, super, TFN, allowances and leave.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Financial and management accounting experience including cash flow, asset management, financial and management reporting.
  • Proven experience in payroll.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and a high degree of attention to detail, with a proven ability to use initiative, investigate issues, collect and analyse data and to make recommendations on solutions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting standards, techniques, concepts and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, work reliably and exercise appropriate initiative.
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills with experience producing various financial reports and an ability to consult and liaise effectively with internal stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Sound community sector financial management knowledge and skills, program / project costing experience.
  • Experience in the administration of external funding and grant acquittals.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary or professional qualifications in finance and accounting required.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience in the use of a QuickBooks Online and Reporting software desirable.
