The opportunity

We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Capital Works Manager to join CEHL and build a meaningful career with a stable, respected registered housing provider.

You’ll lead a team and be responsible for the planning, prioritisation, and delivery of CEHL’s capital works program across the property portfolio, playing a key role in ensuring that homes are safe and well maintained.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role works closely with CEHL Rental Housing Co-operatives, direct renters, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support practical, well-managed property improvements that improve the environmental sustainability and economic life of the CEHL property portfolio, meet regulatory obligations, and contribute to positive housing outcomes for our members and renters.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Leading the development, oversight and ongoing maintenance of the capital works budget and forward program.
  • Ensuring capital works activities are delivered in accordance with relevant legislative, regulatory, and organisational requirements, including residential tenancy obligations, safety requirements and internal policies.
  • Lead and mentor the team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Work assessment and scope determination – review, test and refine work requests to ensure prioritisation and necessity
  • Ensure the team conduct asset inspections in accordance with CEHL policy and processes to assess property condition, quality and lifecycle needs.
  • Technical oversight and project delivery including appropriate site visits being undertaken for major works to monitor progress and compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Leadership of the Asset team.

ABOUT YOU

Tertiary qualified in engineering, building, construction management, or a related discipline. You have demonstrated experience in capital works, project delivery, or property related construction management. You will have developed your skill set over at least 5 years demonstrated by:

  • The ability to assess technical issues and apply sound judgement, and make practical recommendations within approved frameworks;
  • Confidence working with budgets, project records, compliance documentation and performance reporting
  • Capability to lead staff, support change and embed consistent and accountable ways of working;
  • Knowledge of compliance, safety and governance requirements relevant to capital works, residential property and project delivery
