Board Directors x2 (Voluntary) - Remote / Tasmania / Western Australia

Children and Young People with Disability Australia

We are looking for two new members for our Board of Directors.

  • Where: Western Australia and Tasmania
  • Payment: Board members serve an initial term of 3 years. This is a volunteer position, though reasonable expenses associated with board duties will be covered.

About CYDA

We are the national organisation that represents children and young people with disability (aged 0-25). We are a Disability Representative Organisation (DRO), and you can learn more about CYDA here.

We are looking for people from Western Australia and Tasmania

We are specifically looking for directors from Western Australia and Tasmania as we don’t currently have directors from those areas (as a national organisation, this is important to us). People with previous board experience and/or board training and leadership potential, and with skills that will support CYDA to be innovative, effective and financially sustainable are encouraged to apply.

We value lived experience

Board directors are required to be:

  • young people with disability aged 18-25
  • parents/guardians/siblings/caregivers to a young person with disability (aged 0-25); or
  • individuals otherwise approved by the Board.

CYDA considers that lived experience of disability, either personally as a young person or as a family member of a child or young person with disability is a special measure under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).

As a CYDA board director, you will:

  • Help shape the strategic direction of CYDA through sound governance and financial oversight
  • Read board papers carefully, contribute to robust and respectful discussions, and be responsive to out-of-session communications
  • Attend approximately 6 online board meetings per year
  • Join at least one subcommittee which meets 4-6 times per year, also online
  • Attend up to two face-to-face strategy sessions per year (held over 1-2 days, travel costs covered by CYDA) a business
  • Champion the rights of children and young people with disability

Where and when does the Board meet?

Since CYDA has members all over the country, the Board meetings happen online every two months. We also meet in person a few times a year, usually in Melbourne.

Committees

Board members should also be a member of one of three smaller committees that work on: finance and risk, membership and fundraising, or policy and governance.
