Mito Foundation is Australia's peak body supporting people affected by mitochondrial disease (mito)—a devastating genetic condition that can cause organ failure, disability and premature death.

With no cure currently available, the Foundation is committed to accelerating research, improving diagnosis and treatment, advocating for better care, and supporting families navigating life with mito.

ROLE

We're seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Development to lead the next phase of fundraising growth. Reporting directly to the CEO and joining the executive leadership team, you'll lead fundraising across individual giving, philanthropy, bequests, corporate partnerships, and trusts and foundations.

You will shape the organisation's fundraising strategy, strengthen existing income streams, build new partnerships and improve donor development that will expand Mito Foundation's impact nationally.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior fundraising leader who enjoys both strategic leadership and is comfortable with some hands-on delivery.

What you'll be responsible for

• Developing and leading Mito Foundation's fundraising strategy.
• Growing sustainable income across multiple fundraising streams.
• Building and stewarding relationships with major donors, corporate partners and philanthropic funders.
• Leading corporate partnership growth, including opportunities connected to The Bloody Long Walk.
• Developing compelling funding propositions that connect supporters to research, support services and community impact.
• Managing and mentoring a small fundraising team while working collaboratively across the organisation.
• Using data and insights to drive fundraising performance and inform strategic decision-making.
• Providing clear reporting and strategic advice to the CEO and Board.

About you

You're an experienced fundraising leader who combines commercial thinking with genuine purpose.

You'll likely bring:

• Demonstrated success growing sustainable fundraising revenue and meeting stretch income targets.
• Experience across several fundraising disciplines, including individual giving, philanthropy, corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, major gifts, sponsorships, appeals or digital fundraising.
• Strong commercial judgement and strategic thinking with ability to prioritise effort toward highest-value opportunities.
• Excellent relationship management skills and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, donors and board members.
• Experience leading teams and delivering strategic fundraising initiatives.
• A collaborative leadership style and the ability to inspire others around shared goals.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex work into compelling funding opportunities.
• A data-informed approach to fundraising and performance improvement.

Experience within health, medical research, disability or rare disease organisations will be highly regarded, but candidates from other purpose-driven sectors with transferable fundraising experience are encouraged to apply.
