The Centre Against Sexual Violence (CASV) aims to provide a service that facilitates the recovery and healing for women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people, who have experienced historical sexual assault and recent sexual assault. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand upon your existing counselling skills and experience, Counsellors at CASV provide high quality, trauma-informed counselling while being culturally sensitive, respectful, and empowering survivors who have experienced sexual violence.

Duties and responsibilities:

To provide a high-quality counselling and support service to women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people aged 12 years and over who have experienced past or recent rape and/or sexual assault in Logan or Redlands and Beaudesert.

This includes:

  • High quality individual counselling to women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people aged 12 years and older who have experienced recent, past or childhood rape and/ or sexual assault.
  • Advocate with or on behalf of clients where appropriate, particularly with police, the judicial and medical systems.
  • High quality counselling and support for clients who may be eligible for National Redress Scheme (NRS)
  • Participate and collaborate in the development and delivery of group work programs, as required.
  • Record counselling case notes and client statistics in a timely manner consistent with confidentiality and professional standards.• Participating in the development, implementation and review of appropriate and effective policies and procedures that relate to the provision of counselling services to a diverse range of women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people
  • Provide community development and education to all relevant individual and group stakeholders, including the development and implementation of strategies to raise community awareness of the prevalence of sexual violence and its impacts. Based on community requests provide appropriate initiatives related to sexual violence.
  • Where time permits, develop and maintain networks and links with relevant professional groups and community-based organisations
  • To actively and effectively participate as a member of the centre staff team to achieve and maintain an effective, efficient, and accountable organisation that reflects the philosophy of the CASV
  • To participate in the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures that relate to the provision of counselling services to a diverse range of women.
  • Adhere to and contribute to a safe workplace for all staff, Management Committee members, service users and visitors as per Workplace Health and Safety Policy.

Position Requirements

  • Qualifications in Social and Behavioural Sciences, Counselling, or a related field
  • Significant trauma-informed sexual assault counselling experience with women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people is highly desirable
  • Understanding of therapeutic frameworks and interventions for working with women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people impacted by sexual violence
  • To identify with and be able to work within a feminist philosophy.
  • Work within a participatory model of decision making, planning and evaluation• Current Queensland Driver’s License
  • A Working with Children Check/Blue Card

Key selection criteria

  • SC1. Demonstrated possession of tertiary qualifications, experience and/or understanding of working in the delivery of counselling services to address/respond to violence against women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people
  • SC2. Comprehensive understanding of the causes and effects of sexual violence against women.
  • SC3. Well-developed framework for the provision of high-quality counselling services to women, transgender, non-binary & gender diverse people of diverse backgrounds and the ability to articulate the frameworks from a feminist perspective
  • SC4 Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and the capacity to deliver information to a broad cross section of people.
  • SC5. Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of participative decision-making; planning and evaluation processes; effective team practices; and the principles of social justice.
