The Early Parenting Specialist (EPS) is a newly created role for a fixed term contract of 10 months as a 0.6 FTE.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Early Parenting Specialist will have responsibility to ensure the successful delivery of early parenting programs to meet the needs of at-risk and vulnerable mothers, during pregnancy, post birth, with their newborns and children up to the age of 5 years of age.

The EPS will have oversight for the:

  • Provision of early parenting education programs and intervention outreach services to mothers who are referred from Child Protection.
  • Lead in the delivery of individualised parenting interventions, including individual and group parent education programs with the aim to assist families identify goals and employ strategies for effective change to build adult capabilities and family strengths.

The EPS role will also be a key position working across multi-disciplinary teams including CCS practitioners, volunteers, doulas, students and other appropriate services to deliver responsive and flexible interventions to families identified as at risk.

The successful candidate will need to address the following four key selection criteria in their covering application letter:

  • Degree in Social Work or other tertiary qualification with counselling competencies and have substantial experience delivering parent education programs including training in at least two current parent education program approaches (i.e., SafeCare, Triple P, Bringing Up Great Kids).
  • Demonstrated experience in working across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Extensive experience in the delivery of parent education programs; undertaking assessments and working knowledge of DHHS policies and standards in working with at-risk and vulnerable families.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases, including pregnancy and early parenting interventions, seeking and acquitting funding, working with data in planning, allocating work, implementing policy and fulfilling compliance requirements.
