The Opportunity

CARE Australia is part of CARE International, a global movement working to defeat poverty and achieve social justice, with a strong focus on supporting women and girls. We are seeking a Business Development Lead to strengthen CARE Australia’s institutional funding performance by improving strategic positioning, leading high-quality proposal development and supporting robust business development approaches across the organisation.

What you’ll do:

As Business Development Lead you will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic direction on donor engagement, funding approaches and pipeline opportunities across Country Offices and partners.
  • Leading or providing strategic oversight for complex, high-value and priority funding proposals.
  • Ensuring proposals are competitive, evidence-based, compliant and aligned with donor requirements and CARE’s strategic priorities.
  • Strengthening proposal development systems, tools and ways of working to improve quality, efficiency and learning.

About You

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Extensive experience in institutional business development within the international development or humanitarian sector.
  • Demonstrated success leading and securing large-scale, complex funding proposals, ideally with DFAT or similar institutional donors.
  • Strong understanding of institutional donor requirements, funding mechanisms and compliance expectations.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, written communication and proposal development skills, with the ability to shape clear and compelling narratives under tight deadlines.
  • Strong facilitation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to coordinate and influence across diverse, multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
