Canteen is all about supporting young people and their families affected by cancer. Founded by young cancer patients, we offer programs and resources that truly make a difference for 12-25 year-olds facing their own diagnosis, supporting a loved one, or grieving. Together, we believe our team can create real change!
We are now seeking a Programs Officer, who will play a pivotal role in creating and delivering fun psychosocial and recreational experiences to young people impacted by cancer. - Base Salary + Superannuation + Not-For-Profit Salary Packaging (up to $18,550 of your salary tax-free).

About our role
- Design, plan and facilitate fun and engaging one-day/multi-day events and peer connection experiences for young people aged 12-25 impacted by cancer.
- Act as the key worker/regular contact person for 12-25-year-olds accessing Canteen programs
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to mitigate risk and ensure young people meet their psychosocial and peer support goals
- Build Canteen’s reach in Darwin to by establishing and maintaining referral relationships with external health, education and community organisations.
- Conduct risk analysis of planned activities in line with Canteen’s risk management guidelines
- Some interstate travel to support and co-facilitate national 3-day recreational and therapeutic programs
About You
- Tertiary qualification in education, social work, youth work, a creative/arts discipline, allied health, or related fields is highly regarded
- Skilled at group facilitation and experience engaging with young people (12-25 year-olds)
- Creative thinker with an adventurous streak
- Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail
- Warm, compassionate, and strengths-based approach to supporting young people
- Certified in First Aid, Suicide prevention training, Mental Health First Aid, (or willing to rapidly obtain)
- Current drivers licence

Employment Expectations
To ensure an ongoing commitment to the success of Canteen, all applications must be able to:
- Successfully complete and maintain a current National Police Check and Working with Child Check relevant to the individual’s state jurisdiction.
