The opportunity / The Role
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from a passionate, values-driven individual to join our volunteer Committee of Management in the role of Treasurer. This is a rewarding volunteer opportunity to make a meaningful impact by strengthening financial governance and supporting better outcomes for people with disabilities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Financial literacy and experience in finance / accounting
- Competence using Xero, and Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel/SharePoint/Teams
- Experience managing budgets, bank accounts, and financial reporting
- Ability to prepare and present clear financial reports to a committee or board
- Understanding of not-for-profit financial management principles, grant acquittals, donor reporting
- Hold a current National Police Check and NDIS worker check (or willingness to obtain)
Governance & Compliance Knowledge
- Understanding of Australian charity governance obligations
- (ACNC reporting, financial accountability, ethical use of funds)
- Knowledge of basic tax obligations for charities, including GST, BAS and PAYG
- Awareness of NDIS funding principles, including:
- Appropriate handling of participant funds
- Separation of NDIS and nonNDIS income
- Financial transparency and safeguards
- Commitment to strong internal controls and risk management
Organisational & Personal Attributes
- High level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively with a volunteer committee and senior staff
- Strong communication skills, particularly explaining financial matters in plain language
- Reliable, methodical and able to meet reporting deadlines
- Commitment to the mission and values of a disabilityfocused organisation
Role Responsibilities
- Oversee financial management, record keeping, and cashflow monitoring to support longterm sustainability
- Provide financial insight to inform strategic and operational decision making
- Review and strengthen financial procedures, controls, and reporting
- This is a governance/oversight role. Day-to-day bookkeeping and operational finance tasks are managed by bookkeeping-accounting contractor.
Compliance / Eligibility / Time Commitment
- Hold a current National Police Check and NDIS worker check (or willingness to obtain)
- Meetings every month (up to 2 hours). In-person at Parkside (preferred) or via videoconference
- Ad hoc work hours (WFH)
Desirable
- Previous experience as a treasurer or board member.
- Experience in the arts, disability, or community services sector and NDIS will be highly regarded.
