About Boundless Earth
Boundless Earth (Boundless) has a bold mission: to ensure Australia becomes a renewable energy superpower by 2030.
Our vision is an Australia we can all be proud of - a prosperous, renewable energy superpower and a global force towards a decarbonised world. We exist to accelerate the shift to clean energy, back bold ideas and build the coalitions that will make this transition unstoppable.
We use the levers of philanthropy, investment, and advocacy to create change. Boundless operates through its unique Epic model: quarterly, outcome-driven sprints that bring together cross-functional teams to tackle system bottlenecks and unlock transformational opportunities. In addition, Boundless undertakes 4-6 Rapid Responses per year, responding to key moments where we can accelerate change or prevent backsliding. We move quickly, take calculated risks, and use every lever available to accelerate climate solutions at the scale and speed required for Australia to do its fair share to avert the climate crisis.
The Role
The Communications & Audience Strategy Director is a key driver of impact at Boundless, responsible for shifting public sentiment in Australia in alignment with the Boundless vision. The role brings a sharp public-narrative lens to Boundless's strategy and interventions, grounded in a deep understanding of how Australians form views about energy, climate and the future, with particular focus on politically and geographically influential Australians whose support or opposition shapes the political map.
The Communications & Audience Strategy Director leads the design and execution of narrative-led strategy and interventions: grants, campaigns, partnerships and other mechanisms that move public sentiment toward the 2030 mission. They commission and guide audience research, polling and narrative tools, activate credible messengers to enable coordinated effort, and engage media and trusted voices directly.
This is a senior, high-impact role combining strategic leadership, audience and narrative judgement. The Communications & Audience Strategy Director sits within the Advocacy team.
Melbourne or Sydney preferred.
Key Responsibilities

- Continually developing the strategy as polling, narrative and audience research evolve.
Epic leadership and participation
- Co-leading two Epics per year, developing expertise on the selected topic and exploring a broad range of tools and tactics to achieve targeted outcomes. Own each Epic from early strategy through Board approval and deployment.

- Using 25 per cent of role capacity on direct impact outside Epics: running narrative campaigns, convening messenger coalitions, and engaging media and credible messengers directly.
- Leading or contributing to at least one Rapid Response per year in relation to narrative or audience shifting opportunities (Rapid Response = activating partners in response to key moments and opportunities).
- Shaping Boundless's public positioning at moments where the Boundless brand can create an outsized impact.
Delivery and Boundless leadership
- Owning your work end-to-end, including the invisible coordination such as reviewing grant applications, learning from projects and contributing learning and theories of change to the Boundless playbook.
