Launched in February 2026, Blue Art Journal is a digital publication dedicated to elevating global Indigenous ways of knowing and understanding. Publishing several volumes annually, Blue Art Journal marks Australia’s first ongoing publication dedicated to preserving and sharing First Peoples arts writing.
Blue is a community-led micro-organisation and nonprofit charity, funded in part by philanthropy and Creative Australia grants (currently not multi-year). It is overseen by a Chair, Deputy Chair, and four non-office holding directors who are First Nations leaders in visual arts scholarship, practice, and curation, plus a non-Indigenous Treasurer.
We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals willing to volunteer their skills that support our vision of creating new ways of talking about and engaging deeply with global First Peoples arts and culture–for all audiences.
This is ambitious project aims to cultivate deep engagement with global Indigenous arts and cultures through writing and criticism. If you have existing experience working with not-for-profits, or if you are seeking your first board position to gain experience in the sector, we’d love to hear from you.
Those with qualifications or pursuing studies in the following areas are warmly encouraged:
Key Responsibilities:
This is not an identified position but in order to best support our aims, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander will be prioritised.
Board meetings are held online monthly on the last Monday of every month, 12pm-1pm, AEST. Applicants from any state or territory in Australia are encouraged.
This is a voluntary, remote position.
