Join an Innovative Therapeutic Outreach Program Supporting Children and Young People impacted by Domestic and Family Violence.

Beryl Women Inc. is seeking passionate and skilled Child & Youth Counsellors to join our growing Kids & Young People Safe & Strong Van Program. Flexible employment arrangements allow us to consider applicants seeking anything from part-time through to full-time employment, depending on the needs of the program and the strengths and availability of successful applicants.

This innovative mobile therapeutic outreach service supports children, young people and families impacted by domestic and family violence through flexible, trauma-informed support delivered in environments that feel safe, accessible and engaging.

We believe children and young people are not simply witnesses to violence—they are victim survivors in their own right. Through relationship, safety, creativity and connection, we support children and young people to heal, recover and thrive.

If you are looking for meaningful work within a specialist domestic and family violence service and value relationship-based, child-centred practice, we would love to hear from you.

About Beryl Women Inc.

Beryl Women Inc. is a specialist domestic and family violence service supporting women, children and young people across the ACT.

For more than 50 years, Beryl has provided crisis accommodation, transitional housing, case management, advocacy and therapeutic support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.

Our work is grounded in:

  • Intersectional feminist practice
  • Social justice
  • Reconciliation
  • Cultural safety
  • Trauma-informed care

Our organisational values are Respect, Equality, Diversity, Integrity and Compassion.

About the Program

The Kids & Young People Safe & Strong Van Program is an innovative mobile therapeutic outreach service designed to increase access to support for children and young people who may not engage easily with traditional office-based services.

Support may occur:

  • In the therapeutic van
  • In schools and community settings
  • In refuges and transitional housing properties
  • Outdoors through walk-and-talk approaches
  • In family support spaces
  • In other safe outreach locations across the ACT

The program supports children and young people aged 4–18 years and their caregivers.

Our approach is child-centred, youth-informed, relational, feminist and culturally responsive.

Therapeutic approaches vary according to age and developmental stage, ranging from play-based and sensory interventions for younger children through to creative, expressive and conversational approaches with older children and young people.

About the Role

This is not a traditional clinic-based counselling role.

You will provide therapeutic support to children and young people impacted by trauma, domestic and family violence, homelessness and disruption to safety and attachment.

You may find yourself:

  • Supporting a young child through play-based and creative activities
  • Walking alongside a teenager while discussing difficult life experiences
  • Working with caregivers to strengthen connection and co-regulation
  • Delivering support in schools, refuges and community settings
  • Using sensory, expressive and relationship-based approaches to engage children and young people
  • Working collaboratively with families and other professionals to promote safety and wellbeing

We are looking for practitioners who can adapt their approach to meet children and young people where they are and who enjoy working creatively and flexibly.

What We're Looking For

We welcome applications from practitioners with backgrounds in counselling, play therapy, social work, occupational therapy, psychology or related human services disciplines.

The successful applicants will:

  • Have experience supporting children and/or young people impacted by trauma and adversity
  • Understand the impacts of domestic and family violence on children, young people and families
  • Value relationship-based and developmentally appropriate practice
  • Be committed to culturally safe and inclusive practice
  • Enjoy working creatively and flexibly
  • Be comfortable working independently while remaining connected to a supportive team
  • Be willing to undertake outreach work across the ACT

What We Offer

At Beryl Women Inc. we recognise that meaningful therapeutic work requires support, reflection and sustainability.

We offer:

  • SCHADS Award Level 6.3 – 7.2
  • Generous salary packaging benefits
  • Flexible employment arrangements (part-time to full-time)
  • Clinical supervision and reflective practice support
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Flexible and family-conscious workplace practices
  • Professional driving instruction and orientation for use of the therapeutic van
  • A supportive and collaborative specialist domestic and family violence service
  • Opportunities to contribute to an innovative and evolving outreach program
  • Meaningful work that creates lasting impacts for children, young people and families
