ABOUT us

Belgium Avenue Neighbourhood House (BANH Inc.) operates neighbourhood houses on the Collingwood and North Richmond public housing estates. The houses are a friendly meeting place for the local community and are open daily for drop-ins during school term dates.

The houses offer programs and activities including sewing, Tai Chi, painting class, Yarra Men’s Shed, computer classes, ACFE and choirs. They also offer a range of cooking and food programs including the vibrant monthly Twilight Markets on both estates.

BANH uses a community development framework and has a particular focus on using arts and culture as a tool for community development. Highlights of BANH’s annual calendar include its much anticipated Harvest Festival on the Collingwood housing estate, and annual Gala Ball at the Collingwood Town Hall.

Like most neighbourhood houses, BANH Inc. uses a community membership model of governance which ensures that its work genuinely meets the needs of local people. BANH is part of the North East Neighbourhood House Network and the Yarra Neighborhood House Network which includes the 8 houses located in Yarra.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Manager works with the team, external partners and the community to implement our Strategic Plan to

  • Create spaces which are welcoming, vibrant and safe.
  • Create a variety of social, cultural, recreational and educational opportunities.
  • Adapt and respond to changing community priorities.
  • Share and celebrate food, stories, arts and culture.
  • Collaborate with partners to create change, networks and empowerment.

The Manager will also work with the Committee of Management to ensure that the organisation manages and meets its compliance and governance responsibilities.

ABOUT YOU

Essential:

The Manager must be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant qualification(s) and significant relevant experience, preferably in community sector, Neighbourhood Houses and/ or Adult and Community Organisations.
  • Experience with Human Resource Management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community development principles and practice, and a commitment to social justice and equality
  • Ability to represent and advocate for the organisation professionally and strategically with community, funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in formulating strategic and operational plans and managing budgets, including allocation of resources to effectively and efficiently achieve funding and contractual obligations.
  • Experience managing a diverse and inclusive team of paid staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work collaboratively and a team player.

Desirable:

  • Strong connection to or local knowledge of the North Richmond or Collingwood area
  • Work experience in the not-for-profit sector or community sector
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander as well as Culturally and Linguistically Diverse applicants are encouraged to apply
