Banksia Gardens Community Services is a vibrant community services organisation operating in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Our programs focus mainly on education and training, young people, early childhood, environmental sustainability, gender equity and community participation and advocacy.
An exciting position is currently available to work with a small team responsible for implementation of two of our organisation’s key initiatives, the Broadmeadows Community Youth Justice Alliance (BCYJA) and the Community Support Team. The contract is for 6 months and subject to likely extension dependant on funding.
The Youth and Community Support worker will provide case work support for young people in the BCYJA program as well as other local residents connected to our program through our community development work. The Youth and Community Support worker will also support after school activities and community events. Youth work with BCYJA participants will be the main element of the position.
BCYJA is a partnership project which works with local young people between the ages of 10 and 24 who are justice-involved or at risk of becoming involved with the justice system. It includes the following components:
In this position, the successful candidate will establish positive relationships with young people to provide them with support and meaningful connections to services, educational pathways and employment opportunities. They will also advocate for the needs of program participants to ensure they are treated fairly and equitably and can access the services they need to reach their case plan goals.
