About us

The Australian Water Association (AWA) is a national not-for-profit organisation and Australia’s biggest water network. Our Purpose is to inspire and drive a sustainable water future. We work with almost 400 volunteers to provide opportunities for our members to Share,Connect and Inspire through our networks, events, programs and content. We also contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our region through our International Program.

The Opportunity

We are offering a full-time 12 month contract position, working in a hybrid environment, with a diverse team of people who have come together because we share a common goal to inspire positive change.

You will have the opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally to represent AWA to promote a sustainable water future and our contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Working closely with our CEO you will be responsible for leading the successful delivery of our International and Industry programs. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing a high performing and fun International and Industry Programs team.
  • Managing our international program to implement government and non-government funded water initiatives and projects in our region (SE Asia, Indo- Pacific and Asia–Pacific).
  • Enhancing the opportunities offered by the International and Industry Programs, growing AWA’s proposition and attracting new members.
  • Working closely with the Events team and external stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination of network activities and events programs (e.g. international policy forums, conferences, exhibitions).
  • Overseeing the management of government funded development projects in SE Asia including budgets, management, execution, reporting and communication.
  • Providing Australian organisations and businesses with the assistance to establish market access arrangements in the Asia-Pacific.
  • Manage and oversee a network of consultants, participants, volunteers and partnerships, across the various programs; including the Australian and New Zealand Biosolids Partnerships, and Regional and Remote Program.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in program and project management including governance.
  • Experience in developing strategies, business plans, funding proposals and program reporting.
  • You will be experienced in leading and developing high performing teams
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to prepare Executive/Board level reports and manage external communications.
  • Experience establishing relationships and working with Government Stakeholders across all levels and an understanding of the working of government funded programs.
  • Experience managing government contracts and effective risk management in delivering program milestones and outcomes.
  • You will have appropriate qualifications or equivalent in business administration or other relevant discipline; or approximately 5 years relevant experience in a similar role with an association/within the water sector.
