National Organiser - Flexible Location

Australian Greens

The Australian Greens is looking for an experienced and driven Organiser to help grow our movement and meaningfully engage our volunteer base. In this role, you’ll work closely with organisers across the country to implement organising strategies that can bring more people into the Greens, give our volunteers meaningful things to do, and support training and leadership development. You’ll help plan and deliver training, produce organising resources, execute events online & offline, and work through opportunities and challenges with our organising team. This is a chance to play a crucial role in supporting the ground campaigns of our political movement.

About you

You are an experienced organiser or campaigner with strong skills in coordinating projects and executing plans. You are a problem solver, able to work independently, and great at talking to people. You are passionate about movement building, and care about progressive politics that deliver for everyday people.

You are experienced in facilitation and training volunteers, and enjoy leading groups to level up skills.

To succeed in this role you will enjoy working as part of a large, fast paced national team. You will be someone who can brainstorm tactics, adapt to changing plans, get on the phone to resolve problems, and take initiative to improve processes. You can work quickly, and do the detailed thinking to take concepts and turn them into concrete plans with real outputs. You’ll also have a deep passion for how persuasive conversations and community organising can help turbo-charge political change.

In this role you will:

  • Work with the Campaigns Team to identify, develop and promote organising tactics for ground campaigns nationally
  • Regularly communicate with a network of organisers across the country, and support them to execute organising tactics within their specific context
  • Build, deliver and scale training programs to support the ongoing development of field and organising skills across our movement
  • Provide support in writing briefs for communications materials to be used in offline campaigning activity
  • Coordinate & run events, both online & offline

Selection Criteria

We encourage you to apply even if you don’t have all of the relevant skills. We’re looking for someone passionate and hungry for progressive change and with a belief in our movement, which we prioritise over formal education or qualifications.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and adaptable to change or strategic pivots
  • Experience in community organising, campaigning, union or advocacy work, or a similar people-focused, movement building role
  • Strong project coordination and planning skills
  • Experience planning and delivering events
  • Experience in facilitation, training design, and volunteer leadership development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire volunteers from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in conversations with voters, and large-scale field organising
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with a broad cross-section of individuals, stakeholders and organisations
  • A genuine commitment to progressive politics and the values of the Australian Greens
  • Experience in the use of Canva and with copy-writing is desirable but not essential.

Conditions

This is a full-time position for 38 hours per week on an initial fixed-term contract until 8 weeks after the next federal election. The position may be extended on a permanent basis subject to ongoing need and funding.

The position is subject to the conditions of the “The Australian Greens Staff Collective Agreement” and will be employed with a classification under this agreement of Support 2 pay level 5 with a starting annual salary of $104,630.

Superannuation is also paid at the rate of 12%.
