We are currently seeking an experienced accountant to identify and rectify ineffective financial reporting and accounting processes, coach and mentor the Head of Finance and team responsible for finance, quality and regulatory compliance and performance.

About us:

Established in 1990, arbias is a not-for-profit organisation that supports people with a suspected or diagnosed Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and people with multiple comorbidities such as physical disabilities, mental health, alcohol and other drug related issues, connection with the criminal justice system and high complex needs. We are a recognised industry leader in this field providing a range of specialist support services across metropolitan and regional Victoria and NSW. 

Services in NSW include Initial Transition Support (ITS) which provides services to people who have high complex needs post release from prison. People are supported to reduce and prevent reoffending. The service is funded by Corrective Services NSW and is delivered across 17 sites. An arbias case worker is co-located at each Corrective Services site and provides direct support in collaboration with a Corrective Services Case Manager. arbias is also expanding its services in NSW via NDIS support co-ordination and core support. 

Services in Victoria include but are not limited to TAC funded Residential Services and Specialised Intensive Case Management & Outreach Services; NDIS Support Coordination & Core Support Services; Community Programs and fee for service neuropsychology assessment training. 

About the role:

Reporting to the CEO, this is a part-time role responsible for providing effective support to, and oversight of a small Finance team of four staff responsible for finance, quality compliance and performance, and legislative and policy requirements.

The position will provide strategic advice to the CEO and will be co-opted to the arbias Executive team and FRAC committee as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervision & Development of Staff

  • Contribute to a positive team culture which aligns with organisational values and goals through effective people collaboration and modelling.
  • Lead, coach, guide and share knowledge with staff to encourage learning and reflection.
  • Maximise effectiveness by selecting, developing, managing and motivating a high performing team.

Accounting Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Ensure all finance and payroll obligations are at or above standard through the manager finance, and that they comply with internal policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Provide consultancy advice on financial reports (P & L), balance sheet and its integrity, reconciliations, budget forecasts and provide analysis and advice to the CEO for Finance Risk and Audit Committee via the manager finance team.
  • Provide advice, coaching and guidance to the annual budget forecast using highly developed analytical skills to interpret financial reports and forecasts.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are in place to mitigate potential financial performance risks through the Manager, finance team.
  • Provide strategic advice and support in collaboration with the manager finance team to Executive members in order to support them to manage respective programs within budget including EFT.
  • Contribute to initiatives to increase revenue and reduce costs.

Other responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Monitor and support ‘the team’ in relation to the effective development and implementation of quality, risk and compliance frameworks, systems and processes.
  • Monitor and support ‘the team’ in relation to continuous improvement measures to improve quality indicators, and resident and client outcomes and experience. 

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Understanding or experience in the NFP community services sector highly desirable
  • A tertiary qualification in accounting or IPA/CA (highly desirable).
  • Commitment to the arbias vision, mission and objectives and alignment with organisational values and code of conduct.
  • Current National Police Check
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • All work undertaken is at the Hope St Brunswick office only; arbias does not support working from home arrangements.
