Araluen is a registered NDIS provider, supporting adults with disability in their homes, in the community and from various service bases in Melbourne, Victoria.  Delivering imaginative, caring, reliable support matters at Araluen – we are committed to upholding and advocating for people with a disability living a great life,  and to building trusting, respectful relationships with our participants, the people who are important to them and across the communities in which we operate.

We’re seeking new Board Directors to fill two upcoming vacancies. This position is a non-remunerated role.

The opportunity

Araluen’s goal for every participant is for them to develop their skills to increase independence and be empowered and encouraged to have more choice and control in all life areas.

The Araluen Board is seeking Directors (voluntary) who can bring expertise in:

  • Executive/Board experience in not for profit, community and/or disability settings
  • Commercial or legal industry experience
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Risk and Governance

We are embarking on an exciting phase to extend our reach and growth and we seek to appoint new suitably qualified and experienced Board Directors to join us.  

What’s involved?

The Board ensures Araluen fulfils its purpose, operates well, remains solvent and complies with all legal, financial and ethical obligations.

In accepting the position, Board members undertake to provide sound governance and effective leadership to the organisation by ensuring that the organisation has:

  • Clear strategic directions and achievable plans in line with its purpose and values.
  • Adequate resources to carry out its work.
  • An effective policy framework to guide its work, implement its plans and meet its obligations.
  • Adequate internal controls to ensure sound financial management, risk management and legal compliance.
  • Adequate internal accountability mechanisms to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and to monitor organisational performance.

Your commitment:

  • Prepare for, attend and contribute to regular Board meetings.
  • Actively participate on at least one subcommittee or working group.
  • Respect and collaborate with others and be fully accountable for your actions.
  • Commitment to integrity and transparency in serving the best interests of our organisation and stakeholders.
  • Attend Director development as required.
  • Participate in periodic board governance and performance reviews.

Your skills and experience:

  • Experience or interest in the operation or governance of community organisations or not for profits.
  • Have a sound understanding of the principles of corporate governance (including appropriate training or willingness to commit to such training)
  • Prior experience on a Board or regular provision of reports to a Board well regarded.
  • Strategic planning, critical thinking and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated forward thinking and proactive leadership
  • Ability to work cooperatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Becoming a Board Member at Araluen is subject to a Working with Children Check and the NDIS Worker Screening Check.
