The Aboriginal Peak Organisations of the Northern Territory Aboriginal Corporation ICN 10476 (APONT) is an alliance of peak Aboriginal organisations in the Northern Territory. The alliance was created to provide a more effective response to key issues affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory, including through advocating practical policy solutions to government.

APONT is a signatory to the $843 million partnership agreement on NT remote Aboriginal investment (NTRAI), an initiative under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, and is funded to deliver the NTRAI capacity building and sector strengthening (CBSS) grants program.

About the role

The program director, sector strengthening provides strategic leadership and oversight of the CBSS grants program. The role is responsible for delivering a high-impact, evidence-informed program that strengthens organisational capability, leadership, governance, workforce development, service quality and collaboration across the Aboriginal community controlled sector.

The program director leads all aspects of program design, implementation, governance, grant administration, financial oversight, performance monitoring, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement. Working closely with funders, Aboriginal community controlled organisations, APONT members and strategic partners, the program director ensures the CBSS grants program achieves measurable outcomes while fostering innovation, collaboration and sustainable sector development.

As a member of APONT’s executive leadership team, the program director contributes to organisational strategy, business development, organisational performance, and a culture of accountability, learning, and excellence.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

• An in-depth knowledge and understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander political, cultural and economic issues facing Aboriginal people and communities in the Northern Territory.
• Demonstrated senior leadership experience managing grants programs, contracts or funding agreements.
• Strong knowledge of grant administration, contract management and governance principles.
• Strong understanding of governance, grants management, financial accountability, and compliance.
• Strong understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement frameworks.
• Tertiary qualifications in public administration, business, management, community development, social policy, commerce, or a related discipline.
