About the team

The Sustainability & Resilience team leads the City’s strategic approach to carbon reduction, climate adaptation, urban resilience, and environmental management. We develop strategic documents, monitor and report on progress towards goals and targets, lead projects in emerging areas, provide technical advice, and collaborate with other business units to deliver actions.

About the role

As Environmental Sustainability Advisor you will support various planning and operational teams across the City to deliver sustainability excellence for our built environment. You will be responsible for strengthening delivery of our environmental goals by providing high quality technical support and advice, working in strong collaboration with strategy and delivery teams. You will also represent the City in external forums, advocating for change in line with our environmental strategy.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Provide expert technical advice on sustainability in the built environment to the City’s Strategic Planning and Planning Assessments teams, including advice on Design Excellence Projects, State Significant Planning Proposals and Development Assessments.
  • Deliver technical advice and implement environmental improvement projects to support the delivery of environmental targets, working in collaboration with operational business units.
  • Deliver external advocacy on issues related to building standards and rating tools e.g. National Construction Code, BASIX, Green Star, NABERS, BASIX and NatHERS.
  • Work with the Manager Environmental Projects to implement the City’s environmental management system, including managing site and activity audits and investigating pollution incidents.

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Strong experience in working with planners or operational teams to apply environmental standards and deliver improvements
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting, negotiating and resolving technical matters relating to environmental sustainability
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide evidence-based advice
  • Proven experience in the design, implementation and assessment of environmental sustainability strategies, delivery frameworks and programs.
