Victims Support Worker - Swan Hill / Mildura

  • Swan Hill Location, including 1 day per week from the Swan Hill Police Station
  • Fixed term Part-time - 3 days per week until June 2023
  • Provide a range of services to support clients who have been affected by violent crime. 

Support Victims to recover from the impacts of violent crime & navigate victims though the criminal justice process.

The Program:

The Victims Assistance Program aims to assist victims to effectively manage the damaging consequences of violent crime and to minimise the secondary victimisation sometimes associated with involvement in criminal justice system.

This position is based in Mildura or Swan Hill with regular travel throughout the Loddon Mallee region as expected as required.

Qualifications:

Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services, clinical Mental Health, Criminal Justice or a related field and/or experience within the community sector in a trauma related field.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Human Services, clinical Mental Health, Criminal Justice or a related field and/or experience within the community sector in a trauma related field.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the issues potentially faced by people who have experienced a violent crime and a good understanding of the Criminal Justice System
  • Strong understanding of case management principles. Demonstrated experience in intake, assessment and case management principles with the capacity to manage high case loads

Your new role

Intake, Assessment and Short Response

  • Complete  telephone based or face to face Intake and Assessment for Victims of Violent Crime throughout North Central Victoria
  • Initial risk and psycho-social needs assessment, safety panning
  • Provide access to rights and entitlements
  • Assessment/re-assessment of predominant aggressors
  • Referrals to and advocacy with universal or specialist services
  • Task support, practice phone based outreach

Case Management

  • Provide psychological first aid, information, referral, casework, and advocacy and case management services to  victims of violent crime.
  • Provide information and assistance to clients to navigate the criminal justice system.

  • Salary $53, 257 working 3 days per week plus super plus salary packaging

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement. This role will also require National Finger Printing and VicPol misconduct screening as part of your role will be to co-locate at Police Stations.
