Your role:

Seeking a hardworking and motivated individual to perform a Therapeutic Youth Practitioner role within the Kirrang Wilam Enhanced Youth Refuge. This position requires an individual with a strong working knowledge of the youth homelessness sector and the ability to work with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds. This position requires a competency in case management as well as the ability to contribute to the day to day operations of the refuge.

You will be an experienced and motivated individual working alongside the Youth Support Workers in coordinating psychosocial assessments and providing input regarding the therapeutic care and case management needs of the young people within the Enhanced Youth Refuge.

Who are we looking for?

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level.
    Experience working with complex young people and a good understanding of the issues facing homeless young people.
  • A strong ability to develop a therapeutic alliance with young people who have experienced significant family disruption, personal trauma and who present with complex psychological and social needs.
  • Capacity and commitment to work effectively with young people in a therapeutic setting.
  • Relevant experience and competence in the Human Service field including working with young people across ages.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
  • Highly effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to the principles and practice of quality care in residential settings for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, and to promote autonomy and self-determination for clients.
  • A sound understanding of theories relating to trauma and attachment as they relate to delivering a therapeutic framework in services for young people who have suffered neglect and abuse.
  • Ability to select and utilise relevant theoretical frameworks and tools in formulating suitable psychosocial assessments of young people and the ability to implement appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • A demonstrated ability to engage and work in a collaborative manner within a multi-disciplinary team, including youth work staff.

  • A salary at SCHCADS level 6 which is $92,298.96
  • This salary is correct at 34.2 working hours
