  • Location: Brisbane (Meanjin)
  • Employment type: Permanent commencing as soon as possible
  • Salary: $120,051-$130,249 per annum (full-time equivalent), pro rata for part-time, plus superannuation (12.5%).
  • Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week (1.0 FTE), with flexibility to consider part-time (0.8 FTE, 30.4 hours per week).

The Opportunity

The People & Culture Director drives AMCS' strategic HR vision, cultivating a values-aligned culture that attracts, retains, and develops exceptional staff and volunteers to protect Australia's ocean and coasts.

This senior leadership role ensures robust HR administration, policy development, and compliance while providing trusted advice to fellow directors in the Senior Management Team (SMT), as well as to the CEO and Board.

This position demands high-level strategic judgment, autonomy, and organisational-wide impact.

What you’ll bring

  • Commitment to upholding AMCS’ values and a passion for protecting our oceans and marine life.
  • HR Leadership: 5+ years in strategic HR roles, preferably NFP/community sector with multi-site/remote teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR/Business.
  • Stakeholder Skills: Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills are vital for this role.
  • Industrial Relations: Proven expertise managing Fair Work matters, disputes, and complex ER.
  • Strategic Influence: Experience as executive advisor shaping organisational strategy/structure.
  • Leadership: Track record inspiring teams, driving performance, and developing capability.
  • Values Fit: High integrity, mission-aligned (conservation or social sector).
  • We also value SCHADS expertise, HR analytics proficiency and experience with Employment Hero.
