The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact

As a senior leader within Service Innovation & Reform, you guide and manage the Allied Professional Services (APS) function, leading best‑practice socio‑legal collaboration across the ALS. You lead APS frameworks, policies and staff capability to ensure culturally safe, high‑quality and community‑responsive social work services alongside legal services. Each day, you will:

• Lead the APS function, overseeing best‑practice socio‑legal collaboration and service delivery.
• Provide clinical supervision, mentoring and support to APS staff to ensure a capable, culturally competent workforce.
• Develop and implement APS frameworks and procedures that strengthen consistent, high-quality practice.
• Provide program oversight and manage APS teams including performance, resourcing, planning and supervision.
• Drive monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement across APS programs and partnerships.
• Support and collaborate with other Senior Managers to develop practices that supports high quality, collaborative service delivery by lawyers and APS staff.

Your Story & Strengths

You are a skilled and motivated leader with deep understanding of the cultural, social and systemic factors shaping the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You bring strong technical expertise, cultural capability and a commitment to delivering high‑quality, culturally safe and community‑responsive APS services. Key strengths include:

• Relevant qualifications include a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or a related field, supported by a minimum of eight years’ industry experience.
• Leadership of APS staff involves mentoring, supporting and developing allied professionals to maintain a capable and culturally competent workforce.
• Strong cultural capability reflects deep understanding of the cultural, social and systemic factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Best‑practice socio‑legal expertise to guide casework, wraparound supports and effective socio‑legal collaborations across programs.
• Program and relationship management includes overseeing staff, developing policies and guidelines, and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
• Operational capability encompasses project management, high‑level communication and reporting skills, adaptability and willingness to travel across regions.
• You have experience leading innovative or emerging functions within an organisation, shaping new approaches and embedding effective practice.
• You have experience developing multidisciplinary staff including caseworkers, lived‑experience practitioners, and professionally trained specialists.
