About the Position

We are excited to welcome a part-time or full-time [0.8 FTE – 1.0 FTE] Specialist Cultural Practitioner (Identified) to our Rockhampton Intensive Family Support Team! Build strong partnerships with First Nations communities in Rockhampton, championing culturally safe family support and promoting reflective, inclusive practice within the team. This role offers a powerful opportunity to support Act for Kids’ dedication to culturally safe practice, helping ensure every child has an equal chance to heal from trauma and live a happy life.

  • Level 5 SCHCADS Award.
  • Salary range: $100,784 - $105,350 + Superannuation.
  • Part-time/Full-time, Government funded opportunity until 30 June 2030 with possible extension.
  • It is a genuine occupational requirement that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver culturally safe, strengths-based case management for families.
  • Engage families respectfully and collaboratively, developing case plans that build on cultural and family strengths.
  • Embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems in all work with First Nations families.
  • Mentor and coach team members to strengthen cultural practice capability.
  • Participate in case consultations, promoting culturally safe and reflective decision-making.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., allied health, social work, human services) or equivalent lived experience (subject to funding body approval).
  • Professional registration where required; membership of a relevant association is desirable.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience working with children and families, with a strong understanding of child protection issues and experience in cases management or therapeutic services.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required), including holding or obtaining required checks (Working with Children Check or professional exemption).
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Willingness of a respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural referee to vouch for your appropriateness for this role.
