About the Position

We are excited to welcome a passionate Team Leader to join our Kowanyama Safehouse team in Far North Queensland. This is your opportunity to make a real difference by creating a safe, supportive environment for children awaiting reunification or placement. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead day-to-day operations, ensure the house is physically and emotionally secure, and guide your team in delivering a therapeutic family reunification service model. You’ll also step up as part of our on-call roster, providing after-hours and weekend support when needed.

  • Level 5 SCHCADS Award.
  • Salary range: $100,784 - $105,350 + Superannuation.
  • Full-time, Government funded opportunity until 31 December 2026 with possible extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Embed the Hope and Healing Framework in all aspects of care by leading and supporting the team to deliver consistent, trauma-informed and culturally safe practices that meet the individual needs of each child.
  • Lead and foster a safe, structured and nurturing home environment that promotes belonging, strengthens relationships, and supports children to maintain meaningful connections with their family, community and culture.
  • Provide strong team leadership, coaching and supervision to Residential Support Workers, guiding performance, building capability, and role modelling best-practice care in line with the Hope and Healing Framework and organisational standards.
  • Work in partnership with the Program Coordinator to support the effective day-to-day operations of the house, including maintaining a safe and organised environment, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure high-quality, child-focused care delivery by leading the team to meet the emotional, physical, cultural, educational and developmental needs of each child in a consistent and responsive manner.

About You

  • Hold or be completing a diploma or degree in a relevant discipline (allied health, social work, human services).
  • Maintain essential certifications: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working within a trauma informed framework.
  • Experience in mentoring of employees through challenging situations to ensure children in the house are given the best level of care.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (proof of eligibility required), including holding or obtaining required checks (Working with Children Check or professional exemption).
  • Current driver’s licence.
