Access Community Services Limited (ACSL) is Australia's leader and specialist in settlement, employment, training and youth and social enterprises for migrants, refugees and mainstream clients, in Queensland, particularly in the South East. As a community based, not for profit organisation limited by guarantee, we boast over a 30 year history of serving our local community which was originally established in Logan in 1984. We are committed to fostering community development, youth, settlement and employment initiatives and to providing personal support programs to address the needs of disadvantaged youth and community groups including migrants, refugees, humanitarian entrants and visa holders.

Position Overview

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Community Connector will work within the Community Engagement and Development Team. The Community Connector role is to connect and link Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people with disabilities or their carers to the NDIS. Many individuals and communities have additional barriers to accessing the NDIS, including language and cultural differences, and/or disassociation from broader community as a result of discrimination or trauma. This role has been developed to address these challenges faced by CALD people who have been unable to access the Scheme or are facing difficulties in using the Scheme to its full potential.

Multiple positions available (Based in Logan (Part-time 0.7FTE), Toowoomba (Full time), Cairns (Full time), Townsville (Full time), Rockhampton (Part-time 0.5 FTE) and Mackay (Part-time 0.5 FTE).

Key Responsibilities

• Improve awareness and knowledge of participants, potential participants and communities about the NDIS and about disability more broadly.
• Reduce barriers to accessing the NDIS by providing assertive outreach to people with a disability and their carers.
• Connect with the community to share information about the NDIS, broader supports and how they can support people with disabilities.
• Identify and establish positive and productive relationships between clients and the NDIA.
• Connect with the NDIA through the employer and with Partners in the Community (PITC) on how to improve access, planning and service delivery outcomes.
• Collaborate with employer to effectively engage target cohorts.
• Support communication between NDIA and community and participants.
• Advise on how to improve access, planning and service delivery outcomes for CALD people with disabilities.
• Complete regular reports that will track the progress and challenges relating to engagement.

Selection Criteria

The successful application will possess the following:

• Current Driver's License.
• Current QLD Paid Blue Card or ability to obtain one.
• Current Police Check (national police check) for employment.
• Rights to work in Australia.
• Demonstrated ability to manage, facilitate, promote and evaluate programs and events including meetings, training and community programs.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in working with CALD communities and people living with disabilities.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to enable engagement with CALD families and communities.
• Tertiary qualification in Social Science, disability, welfare, aged care or related discipline.
• Proficiency in using current MS Office, database and communication technologies.
