About the role

Two part time (0.6) permanent positions available (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) based in Alice Springs NT. Reporting directly to the General Manager Client Services, you will be responsible for:

  • Building and maintaining respectful, culturally safe and trusted relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Elders and key stakeholders
  • Working in partnership with communities to co-design culturally appropriate resources, programs and awareness initiatives
  • Supporting diverse communities (including culturally and linguistically diverse communities, LGBTQIA+ people, people with disability, rural and remote communities, and veterans) to strengthen understanding of dementia
  • Strengthening community connections and promoting access to services and support pathways
  • Monitoring, evaluating and sharing outcomes of community engagement activities
  • Delivering group and individual education and psychosocial support sessions
  • Supporting people to access services and navigate systems in ways that are culturally safe and appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate records and delivering person-centred, compliant and high-quality services.

Salary benefits: We offer all employees the opportunity to salary package up to $15,900 each year for living expenses and up to $2,650 each year for meal and entertainment benefits.

Leave allowances: In addition to your annual leave allowance, you will receive one day of paid birthday or day of significance leave, paid days off during our end of year closure period (if these fall within your regular work days), enhanced personal leave and extended parental leave for all parents. You will also receive 17.5% annual leave loading and the option to purchase additional leave.

About you

We are recruiting for two positions.

  1. The first position is open to all applicants; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.
  2. Due to the cultural context of the role and community engagement requirements, the second position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified position under Section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, open to male applicants only, in line with allowable exemptions under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984.

To be eligible for the identified position, applicants must:

  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander male
  • Be recognised as such by their community
  • Provide a confirmation of Aboriginality

This position has been identified to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation, cultural knowledge and community connection within our organisation.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with the following:

  1. Identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander male (identified position only)
  2. Significant experience building strong and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, families, communities and organisations
  3. Understands of the impacts of colonisation, intergenerational trauma and barriers to accessing services
  4. Experience building community capacity and providing individual and family with psycho-social interventions
  5. Knowledge of dementia and its impact on individuals, carers, and communities
  6. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as social work, community development, health, or allied health (desirable)
