Our Emergency Response Operators are at the forefront of our vital community service to support native wildlife. This position operates out of our headquarters at the Abbotsford Convent, Abbotsford. Availability to work Monday to Sunday on a rotating roster, between the hours of 6.35am - 9.00pm per a shift. Shift frequency and length may change depending on seasonal demands. An ongoing contract position may be considered after the 6-month period.

This role would suit someone who has a confident, pleasant phone manner with strong problem-solving skills; a multi-tasker with demonstrated resilience under pressure.

Key selection criteria (essential):

  • Demonstrated passion for and interest in animal welfare and conservation of wildlife.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Effective time-management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks based on urgency
  • Ability to maintain a rational, calm demeanour whilst dealing with stressful or potentially emotionally triggering scenarios
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with peers as part of a structured team.
  • High degree of dispute resolution abilities

Highly regarded attributes (not essential):

  • Tertiary degree or certification in wildlife biology, environmental science, ecology, zoology or related fields is highly regarded but not essential.
  • Knowledge about rescue, triage, rehabilitation and release of Native Victorian wildlife or a willingness to learn on the job.
  • Previous experience in an emergency response setting or call center environment will be looked upon favourably. Customer service experience is highly regarded.
  • Previous experience with Salesforce or similar databases or CRM’s.
  • Knowledge of current state laws regarding animal welfare.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a broad range of people including members of public, volunteers, veterinarians and other staff members.
  • Reliability, commitment and a strong work ethic.
