The Organisation

Mater Dei is a Good Samaritan Education organisation that creates life-enriching opportunities for children, students, and young adults so that they may grow their capacity for self-determination and realise their full potential. Mater Dei was originally established by the Sisters of Good Samaritan and since 1957 has educated and supported students with intellectual Disability. Since 2011 it has been part of Good Samaritan Education (GSE), and the charism of GSE continues to inspire life at Mater Dei.

Mater Dei enjoys a reputation for delivering quality education and therapy for children with Development Delay (Early Childhood Education), for students with Intellectual Disability in the mild to moderate range (School) and Young Adults with disability (Post School). The role of CEO is to work with the Board and Leadership Team to enhance Mater Dei’s capacity to deliver on its mission in sustainable ways that will provide for future generations.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Board, the CEO will provide executive leadership, operational management, and direction towards achievement of Mater Dei’s vision and strategic direction. Additionally, you will oversee four services in disability education, comprising early childhood education, continuous learning, therapy & assessment, and the Mater Dei School.

The key areas of responsibility will be:

  • Continuing to shape and guide the future of Mater Dei’s strategic priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Managing, developing and motivating the staff members to achieve business outcomes
  • Creating a shared sense of purpose within and across the organisation
  • Ensuring an empathetic and efficient level of service delivery for all clients and their carers / families
  • Delivering on the agreed strategic plan
  • Representing organisational needs and priorities to key stakeholders
  • Collaborating with peer agencies and demonstrating sector leadership
  • Ensuring strong financial performance and high-quality governance and operational systems
  • Ensuring that Mater Dei operates within the charism of Good Samaritan Education
  • Enhancing Mater Dei’s capacity to deliver on its mission in sustainable ways that will provide for future generations.

Key to this role will be building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including young people and their families, NDIA, and relevant Government agencies.

Skills Required

You have a demonstrated track record in executive leadership roles and have taken your teams to the next level of their performance capability. Additionally, you have previously managed a diverse team in the delivery of a broad range of programs and client-facing services and led them to grow the organisation. Your leadership and operational management skills are at the core of your success.

Your experience includes:

  • Understanding of the NDIS
  • Strategic leadership at an organisational level and demonstrated sector development
  • Success engaging and working collaboratively with your team and key stakeholders
  • Negotiation and management of government and non-government funding
  • Strong commercial acumen and a demonstrated track record of success in developing new opportunities
  • A record of ensuring organisational governance, risk management and financial sustainability
  • Ability to engage with a board with the ability to ensure governance, drive strategic planning and the implementation
