About us:

The First Nations Department at Screen Australia works to support bold First Nations screen stories, authored by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander screen practitioners. The department has proudly funded award winning content such as Total Control, Mystery Road and Redfern Now (ABC), and feature films such as Sweet Country, Goldstone and Samson and Delilah, as well as numerous documentaries, factual series, short film and most recently online series.

About the role:

We now have an excellent opportunity for a talented professional to lead the First Nations Department at Screen Australia. Providing strategic, creative and operational direction for Screen Australia’s First Nation’s content creation, this position will develop and implement programs and initiatives that address the needs of the First Nations screen industry and its practitioners. Reporting to the CEO and supported by a cohesive and robust team, the successful candidate will also be part of the Senior Leadership Team at Screen Australia.

This opportunity is offered as an initial 3 year contract and will be based in our Sydney office.

About you:

  • Tertiary studies or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Indigenous society and culture and an understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances in Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous Australian screen industry with experience and skills in, development and production, appraisal of scripts and cultural assessment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional people management skills as well as leadership experience, with proven ability to inspire, engage and motivate a team.
  • Be highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines; in addition to having well developed communication skills
