Pregnancy Assistance Inc. is an independent organisation founded on christian values in 1996. We provide compassionate care and emotional, practical and informative support to women in need throughout their pregnancy and post birth. We also offer counselling for women and men impacted by pregnancy loss (miscarriage, stillbirth and abortion). Our services are extended to all people irrespective of religion, race, demographic and personal values.

Our free and confidential services include pregnancy testing, pregnancy care consultation, professional counselling (including but not limited to decisional counselling and post abortion grief care), accommodation assistance, future study and employment pathways, and practical support.

The Role

We are seeking a unique person to join our caring team as a Counsellor/Manager. This position is a shared role with both incumbents working three days a week from 9:00am – 4:00pm. Co-reporting to the Chairperson of the Board, the two key responsibilities of the position will be to participate in our professional counselling service (face to face and telephone) offered to our clients. Secondly you will oversee the centre’s operations on the days you work, including the coordination of a small number of volunteers.

You will work closely with a ‘Deputy Manager’ who will support you in your leadership. Additional activities include:

  • Providing pregnancy care consultation & practical support to clients when required;
  • Keeping client records by the ACA standards and the Association's policy;
  • Attending occasional board meetings and provide an operational report (you will hold a shared vote with the other Manager/Counsellor);
  • Communicating with a wide variety of stakeholders and promoting the Association where appropriate;
  • Assisting in the development and distribution of a newsletter;
  • Assisting with roster management, IT, software, phone lines, statistics collection and a number of other office tasks;
  • Familiarising yourself with the Association new policies and procedures to guide others; and
  • Other duties as required.

The Person

To be considered for this role, you must have intermediate – strong counselling experience (3 yrs+), and ideally a background in not for profit work. You will also hold:

  • A Bachelor of Counselling or Psychotherapy from an ACA accredited provider;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Great communication & interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to balance competing priorities;
  • Common sense to solve everyday problems that arise; and
  • The ability to work autonomously.

You will have previously lead a small team to ensure safe and positive outcomes and will be motivated by your genuine care for others. Holding counselling experience in the areas of pregnancy and pregnancy loss is advantageous but is not essential for consideration.
