Payroll Officer

We are looking for a proactive and positive Payroll Officer to be responsible for effectively managing all aspects of the OzHarvest Payroll and other General Accounts functions. You will be reporting to the Financial Controller and will be instrumental in delivering a warm and effective payroll service that enables our OzHarvest family to be paid in a timely and accurate way, to maximise the packaging opportunities available to them and to support our team leaders to maintain their rostering systems.

OzHarvest was founded by Ronni Kahn in 2004, who noticed the huge amount of delicious consumable food discarded every day. She decided there had to be a better way. OzHarvest now rescues surplus food to feed those in need all around Australia. We also educate the public and our clients about food waste, nutrition and living a healthier lifestyle.

Since Inception OzHarvest has achieved some great milestones:

  • Over 109 million meals delivered
  • Over 37,000 tonnes of food rescued
  • Over 1300 charities helped
  • $1 = 2 meals to those in need

Key duties and responsibilities

Payroll

  • In conjunction with People & Culture team, ensure all payroll changes are updated and maintained in Employment Hero
  • Liaise with Logistics and Chef coordinators to maintain rostering system and ensure accuracy of payroll/shift/overtime data
  • Prepare and Manage weekly & fortnightly payrolls
  • Prepare and pay Superannuation to nominated super accounts monthly
  • Prepare and post annual leave and long service leave provisions
  • Preparation of Payroll General Ledger reconciliations (from Xero)
  • Process and manage staff expense reimbursements
  • Preparation of month end reports and workers compensation lodgements
  • Processing journals as required
  • Coordination of staff salary packaging with external provider
  • Assist with forecasting and budgeting as required

General Accounts

  • Assist with general banking tasks or any other duties as reasonably required

To be successful in this role

  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar position and a strong team member
  • Experience using a cloud-based payroll system (especially Employment Hero) and knowledge of awards, rostering, timesheets, leave, overtime, terminations, superannuation, workers compensation, and PAYG.
  • Strong MS Excel skills, high attention to detail
  • Experience using Xero accounting software and experience with charity salary packaging benefits is highly desirable
