Marist Youth Care (MYC) has over 100 years experience helping young people at risk in Australia. MYC has developed into one of the largest service providers for vulnerable young people in Australia today.
We currently have vacancies for Residential Carers in our Unaccompanied Humanitarian Minor Program Sydney.
In this position you will provide hands on 24/7 therapeutic care to children and young people of all ages who have been found to be refugees and are being settled in the Australian community. Our Carers ensure the smooth running of the home and sees that it is a safe and nurturing place for the children to develop and learn.
This position is a direct hands-on care role, daily tasks will include; cooking meals, cleaning, preparing the children and young people for school, driving them to and from school and participating in their school, family and community. You will also take them to sporting, religious activities and medical appointments.
You will work as part of the children's and young people's care team, consisting of other Carers, Coordinator, Caseworker and a Cultural Mentor and work together to achieve their case plan goals regarding education, health, family and community connections, religious practices.

Key Responsibilities of the Youth Worker will include:
- Ensuring a safe and nurturing home for the children and young people.
- Providing hands on care and fulfil the role of 'day to day parent', ensuring the children and young people are looked after and their development, schooling, social, cultural, religious and sporting achievements are promoted and celebrated.
- Encourage and assist in learning age appropriate life skills.
- Facilitate relationships for the children and young people with their ethnic and religious community by establishing relation ships for the MYC care team and the children with these communities.
- Active listening skills and effective negotiation skills with children, direct care teams and other service providers.
- Report writing skills including completing client progress notes, diaries, timesheets, records of expenditure and reporting of incidences in line with policy requirements.
Essential qualifications and skills you will need are:
- Relevant qualification minimum of Certificate IV (Community Welfare, Youth Work or equivalent).
- Knowledge of residential care environments and contemporary best practice approaches.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation.
- 12 months experience in working with children and young people.
- Experience in working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
- Must be able to complete all shifts on the 24 hour roster, including sleep over shifts.
- Current NSW Driver's License - class C.
- Current Working with Children Check clearance.
It is desirable for you to be able to also speak Burmese, Chin (Hakha, Falam), Pawi or Arabic, but this is not essential.
