Médecins Sans Frontières Australia MSF is one of the leading independent organisations for medical humanitarian aid in Australia and the region, and its core mission has been strengthened in recent years which has led to growth and increasing contribution and support to the global MSF movement. One of 28 offices across the world, and established in 1995, MSF Australia's contribution to public debate, understanding of the key humanitarian crises affecting populations in the world, influencing humanitarian aid policy discussion are all key drivers of its communications strategy today and in the future.

The Medical Unit in Sydney is responsible for medical support and expertise in the area of Women’s and Child Health and care of survivors of Sexual Violence. It also provides a direct link to the field for MSF Australia, mainly through support to communications, fundraising, and the field human resources department. In addition to the Head, the Medical Unit consists of seven staff in total (full and part-time medical and paramedical staff and one department assistant).

The role of the Head of the Medical Unit will be twofold:

1. Contribution to the social mission through medical leadership in MSF OCP; management and clinical guidance of the Medical Unit Sydney under the hierarchical responsibility of the Medical Director MSF OCP based in Paris
2. Strategic and content contribution to the mission of MSF Australia under the oversight of the Executive Director of MSF Australia. S/he will be a member of the Leadership Team of MSF Australia.

The successful candidate will be a Medical Doctor or other health professional with a minimum of three years MSF Field Experience. MSF Coordination or HQ experience is essential. Excellent written and oral English (C2) and good oral French. Capacity and willingness to work outside regular office hours as well as willingness to travel to MSF Field projects and Sydney/Paris for several weeks at a time (approximately 3 months/year away from Sydney).
