MITS is looking for a female Boarding Coordinator for our new Alumni Boarding House in Richmond. This accommodation is a home for girls who have completed year 7 with MITS and are now completing years 8 and above at our Partner Schools around Melbourne
Commencing in Term 4, 2019 (early October) you will initially work a small home environment (the Crofts, Richmond) with just 3-4 girls then enjoy 6 weeks off over Christmas. In January 2020 you will transfer to our newly completed Boarding house (St Stephens, Richmond) which will house 18 girls.
The Roster for the two facilities will vary but will include a variety of shifts including approx. 4-night shifts per week, weekend shifts, day shifts and afternoon shifts. Initially this will be a casual role, developing to ongoing in 2020.
You have previous experience in a residential or boarding school environment, preferably including both male and female students and want a role where you can make a significant contribution to furthering the development of Indigenous students. To meet the cultural requirements of this position you can demonstrate a sound knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and lifestyles. Naturally you will have the ability to establish appropriate relationships with young people, show consistency and fairness. An understanding and appreciation of the needs and interests of Indigenous students living away from home is vital.
Student Welfare: You will supervise students, ensuring they are dressed and ready for school, participate in outings on weekend and contribute to a range of regular program of night and weekend activities to enrich their personal, social and cultural development. A background in student residential care is essential; experience in an Indigenous environment is highly regarded.
Importantly, you will be available to lend a sympathetic ear to children with problems and be sensitive to their concerns so experience with, and an understanding of the unique needs of Indigenous children living away from home is mandatory.
Living Environment: As part of this role you will contribute to domestic duties, encourage students to keep the Boarding House tidy and supervise their laundry to ensure our residents have clean uniforms, sporting clothes, etc.
This role is an excellent opportunity to work with a committed and dedicated group of people in an environment which is meaningful and challenging. This role will also offer you the potential for personal development through the growth and development of the organisation. This is an innovative and exciting opportunity that is making a real impact on the lives of Indigenous students and communities.
