Background
Indigenous Employment Partners is an Indigenous operated charity and social enterprise with a social purpose to contribute to ending the cycle of poverty and disadvantage experienced by Indigenous Australia by building capacity and fostering self-sufficiency through employment. We provide culturally appropriate employment, recruitment and training services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the organisations who employ them.
Accountabilities
- Provide support, guidance and assistance to Indigenous jobseekers and potential employers by ensuring that cultural expectations are met, identifying gaps in the service provisions
- Provide mentor assistance to staff and managers to assist Indigenous jobseekers to be successful in gaining and maintaining employment and improving their social and/or economic situation
- Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships and networks
- Provide a high-quality service to Indigenous community organisations
- Identify employers for Indigenous employment action plans
- Identify and network with community groups to develop relationships and maintain the latest information to assist Indigenous jobseekers
- Mentor Case Managers and IEP team members to
- Understand and meet the needs of Indigenous jobseekers
- Refer jobseekers to appropriate external agencies/bodies for inclusion in programs, training etc
- Negotiate appropriate job placement or work experience placements for jobseekers
- Assist jobseekers in the development of their resumes, letters of application etc
- Provide post placement support to candidates
Selection Criteria
Knowledge and skills
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Case Management of Indigenous jobseekers an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and achieve outcomes in a performance driven environment
- Ability to maintain accurate records (electronic and paper based)
- Proven ability to work with community and community organisations
- Proven ability to motivate and build rapport with job seekers to achieve positive employment related results.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with employers, participants and other stakeholders
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture with specific knowledge of Indigenous affairs, community kinship and social and emotional wellbeing
Personal qualities
- Have demonstrated qualities of empathy, integrity and compassion
- Have well developed interpersonal skills especially regarding establishing positive working relationships with external stakeholders
Desirable
- It is desirable that the incumbent for this role has acquired, or is working toward, a qualification in one of the following areas:
- Certificate IV in Community Development
- Certificate IV in Employment Services
Additional requirements
- Full Driver’s licence and the ability to attend meetings off site
