About Gippsland Multicultural Services

Gippsland Multicultural Services (GMS) is both a Migrant Resource Centre and a provider of aged care, disability and community supports across Gippsland.

We work alongside multicultural and culturally diverse communities through direct service delivery, community engagement, partnerships and advocacy.

As the organisation continues to grow and mature operationally, we are seeking a Manager Business Services & Finance to join our leadership team.

This is a senior leadership role focused on finance, reporting, business services, systems improvement and organisational sustainability.

The role includes oversight of payroll and finance administration, use of systems such as QuickBooks and Employment Hero, understanding of payroll compliance requirements including Portable Long Service Leave, and liaison with external accounting support in relation to BAS and other specialist compliance functions.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role works closely with the leadership team to support strong financial management, operational effectiveness and organisational sustainability.

This is an opportunity to help shape how GMS grows into its next phase — strengthening systems, improving the usefulness of financial and operational reporting, and supporting a more mature culture of accountability, ownership and sustainability across the organisation.

The role sits within a dynamic context that includes an evolving aged care environment, organisational growth across Gippsland, innovation in social enterprise, and the need to diversify revenue and strengthen long-term financial sustainability.

The role leads:

  • budgeting and financial reporting
  • business services and administration
  • operational systems improvement
  • organisational reporting processes
  • support for managers and coordinators in budget ownership and accountability
  • oversight of business services functions including facilities, fleet, asset management and operational infrastructure through the Business Services Coordinator

Direct reports include:

  • Business Services Coordinator
  • Finance and Payroll Officer
  • Finance and Marketing Officer
  • Reporting Lead (dotted line reporting)

The role also works collaboratively with the Risk & Governance Lead to strengthen organisational systems, compliance and reporting capability.

This role will likely appeal to someone who enjoys not only keeping the financial foundations strong, but also helping leaders use information well, improve systems over time, and contribute to growth, innovation and sustainability in a community-based organisation.

Mandatory Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Finance
  • Experience in financial management, budgeting and reporting
  • Experience supervising staff and providing people leadership
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
  • Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks, Employment Hero and payroll compliance requirements, including Portable Long Service Leave
  • Current driver licence
  • Eligibility to work in Australia

The successful applicant will also require:

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check and/or Police Check
  • Working with Children Check

(can be obtained prior to commencement)

Desirable Experience

The following are highly regarded but not mandatory:

  • CPA or CA qualification (or working toward)
  • Experience in community services, aged care, disability, not-for-profit or social enterprise sectors
  • Experience supporting operational systems improvement, business services or organisational growth
  • Understanding of SCHADS Award interpretation is advantageous
  • Understanding of governance, compliance or organisational risk processes
  • Experience working within multicultural or community-based organisations

The Reality Check — What This Role Is Really Like

This is not a “sit quietly in finance” role.

Every day leans into strong people leadership and cultural humility in a fast-moving business services environment, alongside financial oversight, communication and practical problem-solving.

GMS is a growing organisation operating within changing aged care, disability and community sector environments. Some days are highly structured and analytical; others require adaptability, collaboration and sound judgement.

This role would likely suit someone who:

  • enjoys translating financial information into practical insight
  • values accountability and teamwork
  • can communicate clearly and respectfully
  • enjoys improving systems over time
  • can navigate change with perspective and support
  • is comfortable balancing strategic thinking with operational detail Importantly, you will not be expected to do this alone.

GMS has a supportive leadership culture grounded in teamwork and prioritising safety and respect. We have a strong commitment to clear communication, expectation management and continuous improvement.

Why Join GMS?

  • Opportunity to play a meaningful leadership role and contribute to Growth across Gippsland
  • Opportunity to support innovation and diversification, including social enterprise opportunities
  • Opportunity to work closely with a CEO and leadership team committed to inclusive leadership, person-centred care, and meaningful change for multicultural communities and under-represented groups across Gippsland
