Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens is an independent, not-for-profit, membership-based organisation that supports horticulture, scientific research, conservation and education programs within the iconic Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan and the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah. With up to 50% of the world’s plant species at risk of extinction, the Gardens undertake important work researching plant species and habitats, as well as the global threat to plant bio-diversity. With over 5,000 members, including 300 volunteers, Foundation & Friends focuses on supporting the work of the Gardens in celebrating and protecting plant species and the natural environment.
Foundation & Friends is looking for a CEO who can identify and leverage new growth and funding opportunities to support the work of the Gardens. As CEO you will be responsible for the overall development and implementation of the strategic plan and budget and oversee day to day operations of the Foundation & Friends. Utilising the passion and skill of a small, dedicated team and hundreds of volunteers, you will lead the organisation to deliver its objectives across a broad set of activities including events, exhibitions, talks, tours, plant sales and fundraising.
You must have demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategy, communications and advocacy, as well as fundraising coupled with commercial experience. You are capable of working collaboratively and managing complex stakeholder relationships across a diverse range of audiences, including a committed Board of Directors, the Executive Leadership team of the Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust, donors, members and a large and skilled group of volunteers. Critical to success will be managing and supporting staff, members and volunteers to raise both funds and profile to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a strong, strategic leader with an inclusive style, people management skills gained in the public or the private sector, commercial acumen and a keen interest in conservation, science and sustainability. Experience in, or exposure to a non-profit or conservation organisation is highly desirable.
This role is full time and located in Sydney.
Please note: applicants must have the right to work in Australia.
