This position is open to Permanent Full Time, Permanent Part Time, Fixed Term Full Time, Fixed Term Part Time or Casual appointments with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

Position Profile: 

The Clinical Nurse Specialist role provides advanced mental health nursing to young people with eating disorders and their families. This includes outpatient family and individual therapy, group programs, and inpatient services, as well as contributing to quality improvement, research and training initiatives within PCH and across the health sector.

The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) is proud to be the leading service provider for paediatric healthcare in Western Australia, as the State’s only dedicated health service for infants, children and young people. CAHS is made up four service areas: Neonatology, Community Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). Consisting of over 5,500 employees, our services are delivered at PCH and King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH), as well as across a network of more than 160 community clinics across the metropolitan area.

Work related requirements

The following criteria should be considered in the context of the CAHS Vision, Objectives and Values.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Eligible for registration in the category of Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Advanced knowledge of mental health disorders and demonstrated recent clinical practice in hospital, community or consultation liaison mental health.
  • Advanced skills relevant to triage, medical care, risk assessment, counselling, crisis intervention and treatment planning. 
  • Demonstrated high level of communication, negotiation, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act, 2014 and demonstrated ability to apply this in a clinical setting.
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of clinical governance issues.
  • Current drivers licence.
  • Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety and Health, and how these impact on employment and service delivery.

Desirable Selection Criteria: 

  • Possession of (or substantial progression towards) a relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Experience treating children and adolescents with eating disorders
  • Demonstrated computer skills with working knowledge of PSOLIS and NOCC
