INTRODUCTION
The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation (VPBRF) is a community-based organisation established to honour and remember employees of Victoria Police who have been killed in the line of duty through the support of worthwhile community projects in Victoria.
The Foundation has a varied program of community support but its main focus is on hospital facilities that are provided by donations for the building of new and improved medical facilities.
Projects funded by the Foundation are named in memory of fallen police officers – a program of remembering lives by saving others.
STRUCTURE
VPBRF is an Incorporated Association that operates under a Constitution and policies that conform with all relevant Laws and Regulations and to align to best practice and ethical models.
We are a member-based Association with a Committee of Management (Board) elected by the membership.
In addition to the central operations we have a network of 17 Regional Branches who represent our mission in their own communities and fundraise to support local projects approved by the Foundations Board.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role oversees and implements all communication related activities, marketing, advertising, internal and external communications, social media, promotional and media activities, and all related content.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implement communications, marketing, advertising and media strategies which promote the values, programs and achievements of the Foundation
- Plan, write, edit and publish a variety of communications and other documents, which communicate the work and mission of the Foundation.
- Media relations, establishment of a media network & media output.
- Content management and updates for the Foundation website.
- Manage social media channels including developing and designing content and managing engagement with audiences.
- Assist in the review and development of systems and procedures that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of communications for the Foundation
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Community Engagement Manager
Key external relationships/stakeholders: VicPol Corporate Communications, media outlets, VicPol family members, corporate partners, sponsors, customers, VicPol members, Foundation members, volunteers and branches.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications and Marketing
- Lead production of the Foundation’s communication materials including e-newsletters, brochures and promotional material.
- Support the marketing and communication of the Foundation’s projects, merchandise and special events.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of communication strategies for events and dedications.
- Copy edit Foundation publications.
Digital Communications
- Maintain oversight of the Foundation’s website, including updating relevant information
- Develop, implement and evaluate social media strategy
- Increase and strengthen the Foundation’s social media presence
- Develop online communication materials including video content and designing of assets.
Media
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets.
- Develop, implement and evaluate the Foundation’s media strategy.
- Develop and pitch proactive media opportunities to bring attention to the Foundation’s current/upcoming projects.
- Write and distribute media releases.
Other responsibilities
- Provide promotional and communication support to our network of Foundation branches.
- At the discretion of the CEO and/or Community Engagement Manager, perform project assignments as necessary, in conjunction with day-to-day responsibilities
- Participate in annual performance reviews and proactively undertake regular development activities
ABOUT YOU
Qualifications
- Tertiary or Higher Qualifications in Media, Communications, Journalism or related field experience.
Skills/attributes required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of social media
- Strong organisation and time management skills and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and also as a part of the team
- Advanced MS Office and computer skills and design suites.
