Open Place is the State-wide Support Service for Victoria’s ‘Forgotten Australians’. Forgotten Australian’s are adult survivors of childhood trauma who were brought up in institutional and orphanage care prior to 1989. Open Place is an auspice of Berry Street.
This service coordinates and provides direct assistance to address the needs and issues of people who grew up in care, helps people deal with the legacy of their childhood experiences and provides support to improve their health and wellbeing. We are seeking a full time Coordinated Support Worker to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team.
The Coordinated Support Worker will contribute to the suite of services provided at Open Place to Forgotten Australians by providing individual support including referral and connection to broad range of mainstream and specialist services including aged care, mental health, drug and alcohol and homelessness services. The role will provide advocacy regarding barriers to services and target those most in need. The successful applicant will have a commitment to working with disadvantaged community members, an ability to listen with empathy and compassion and to manage stressful information.
An appropriate tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Work/Welfare and demonstrated experience in working with survivors of institutional care and/or sexual abuse is required.
