Zonta House Refuge Association (Zonta House) is a specialist provider of family and domestic violence (FDV) services. Our purpose, values, and services have been informed through 40 years of experience, the needs of victim-survivors of FDV in our community, and research in leading practice.

Zonta House provides holistic services to support individuals, children and families and facilitates education to contribute to social and systems change to prevent and stop FDV. Victim-survivors of FDV are able to access responsive and person-centred support based on their needs to build a future free from abuse and thrive.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Parenting Counsellor to support women in custody and post‑release to strengthen their parenting capacity, rebuild family relationships, and transition safely back into the community.

This role works with women with complex needs, including histories of trauma, family and domestic violence (FDV), alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, and mental health challenges, within custodial and community settings.

You will deliver trauma-informed, evidence-based parenting interventions to women at Bandyup and Boronia Prisons and in the community.

This is a part-time position 22.5 hours a week rostered Tuesday to Thursday on a fixed-term contract until June 2027. This role will be based in Gosnells, with travel required across the Perth Metropolitan area.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide individual therapeutic parenting counselling to women with complex needs
  • Co‑facilitate structured parenting and life-skills programs
  • Support safe and positive parent–child relationships, including reunification where appropriate
  • Work collaboratively with corrective services, child protection, and community service providers

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Diploma in Community Services, Mental Health, Social Sciences, or Social Work.
  2. Strong knowledge of parenting, child development, and family systems
  3. Experience working with women facing complex challenges
  4. Ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
  5. Trauma‑informed, strengths‑based and culturally responsive practice
  6. Strong communication, organisation, and relationship‑building skills

Experience in custodial, justice, or throughcare settings is desirable.

The successful candidate will need to possess:

  • National Police Clearance Certificate
  • Working with Children Card
  • WA driver's license with good driving records
  • Department of Justice, Employment Screening Clearance Certificate (to be obtained upon commencement)
