Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an experienced and resilient Complex Mental Health Support Worker to provide two-on-one support to a 25-year-old female participant living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Complex PTSD, and an intellectual delay.
The successful applicant will have strong experience working with individuals who engage in high-risk and complex behaviours of concern, including self-harm, absconding, suicidal ideation, verbal and physical aggression, and property damage.
This role requires a trauma-informed, empathetic, and consistent approach, with a sound understanding of the complexities of BPD and how attachment, emotional regulation, and relational dynamics can influence behaviour and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent, person-centred support to a participant with complex mental health and behavioural needs within a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment.
- Respond safely and effectively to behaviours of concern, including self-harm, suicidal ideation, absconding, and aggression, in accordance with behaviour support plans and crisis protocols.
- Implement trauma-informed care strategies that prioritise safety, emotional regulation, and trust-building.
- Support daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation, household tasks, and medication prompts where required.
- Maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate, recovery-oriented support.
- Accurately document all incidents, observations, and progress notes in a timely and professional manner.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, behaviour support practitioners, and team leaders, to achieve positive outcomes.
- Promote a structured, supportive, and predictable environment that fosters stability, self-awareness, and positive coping strategies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Essential experience supporting individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex PTSD, and trauma-related behaviours (minimum 1 year).
- Proven ability to safely manage and de-escalate crisis situations involving high-risk behaviours.
- Strong experience working with individuals who engage in high-risk and complex behaviours of concern, including self-harm and suicidal ideation
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disability and mental health comorbidities.
- Excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness when managing challenging interpersonal dynamics.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including weekends, evenings (active awake shifts) as required.
- Working With Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, and and a cleared national police check are required for this role.
- Australian work authorisation is required for this position.
- First Aid Certificate, NDIS Worker Screening Check, and valid driver's licence are all required
