About the role

As part of the Family Support Services (SE Qld) leadership team, the Starfish Coordinator works collaboratively to create an inclusive and supportive workplace. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of our Starfish Program to improve the mental health and socio-emotional wellbeing of children and support families increased awareness about their children’s mental health needs.

Starfish is an early intervention support service for individuals aged up to 18 years, and their families. The program delivers free one-off information and support, short as well as long term counselling responses, group work and community education.

Your day to day will involve:

• Lead the day-to-day delivery of the program and direct line management of the team
• Lead the ongoing development and review of programs in line with contractual requirements and client practice frameworks
• Oversee the delivery of flexible, responsive services that meet individual and family needs and utilise infant, child, youth and family appropriate strategies including supported, supervised and risk assessed outreach and virtual service delivery
• Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of group work programs
• Screen, assess and respond to incoming referrals, allocate cases and complete intake processes
• Facilitate case review meetings and provide resources to enhance practice
• Undertake effective critical decision making in relation to the needs of clients and families
• Support a small caseload as required, including undertaking outreach work
• Coordinate and complete program reports
• Ensure delivery of service is consistent with yourtown mission and values and aligns with compliance frameworks and practices
• Develop and maintain community networks

This position will be appointed on a full-time maximum term basis ending 30 June 2023.

Successful candidates will bring:

• Bachelor degree in social work, psychology or similar and a minimum of 4 years’ experience delivering mental health and wellbeing programs
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with children and young people at risk of developing and/or experiencing mental health issues
• Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team
• Demonstrated skills in understanding theory in clinical assessment, case formulation and planning, counselling and therapeutic interventions and capacity to provide culturally appropriate responses to clients
• Experience in planning, implementing and facilitating individual support and group programs for children and young people who are experiencing, or at risk of developing mental health
• Ability to work both independently and within a team environment, with sound problem solving skills
• Excellent communication, negotiation and report writing skills, including the ability to impart knowledge
