Rural Workforce Agency Northern Territory (RWA NT) are partnering with the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (Congress) to find an Aboriginal AOD Care Management Worker to add to their dedicated team in Alice Springs. Congress has expanded to become the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation in the Northern Territory (NT); focused on providing a comprehensive and culturally appropriate primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in and nearby Alice Springs. You will be responsible to provide care support to clients and carers experiencing the effects of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) as well as other health related matters.

Alice Springs is a city of arts and events and is the beating heart of Australia’s red centre. The city itself has all the amenities needed to live in a very comfortable setting which is a great base for exploring the natural wonders of the NT’s outback; including Uluru, Kings Canyon and Devils Marbles. It is also an amazing spot to explore Australia’s Aboriginal culture.

Key Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Enhance access and capacity of individuals, carers and families to reduce harms associated with misuse of alcohol and other drugs (AOD), mental illness, homelessness and related determinants of Aboriginal health through advocacy, psychoeducation, health promotion, prevention and other early intervention strategies
  • Deliver collaborative client-focused care plans - utilising Congress’ multidisciplinary team approach and culturally appropriate methodologies
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders and service partners to enable wrap around support within the Congress’ three stream of care model
  • Provide community liaison and outreach support
  • Support clients to attend Clinic appointments and access other social supports through the provision of transport and engagement
  • Provide cultural support and advice ensuring cultural safety within service delivery and participate in SEWB community promotions

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:

  • Is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Central Australian Aboriginal community
  • Minimum Certificate IV level qualifications in AOD, Mental Health, Disability, Community Services or a willingness to obtain through training
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social and emotional wellbeing needs and issues of Aboriginal people
  • Proven experience in support and advocacy for Aboriginal clients and their families and management of a caseload
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders, both orally and in writing
  • Current Drivers Licence
