Wesley Mission has long been a leader in the suicide prevention field, establishing the first Lifeline centre in 1963. Oversee the operations and delivery of one of Australia’s largest Lifeline call centres.

About the Centre

In 1963, while led by Reverend Dr Sir Alan Walker, Wesley Mission established the first Lifeline. Since this time, the Lifeline movement has grown significantly and is now Australia’s largest national phone support services, answering over a million calls a year. As one of the 37 accredited Lifeline Australia Centres, Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland is owned and operated by Wesley Mission and supports more than 30,000 people annually through its 13 11 14 Crisis support service.

The Centre is experiencing unprecedented growth and is continuing to expand its volunteer base and its existing suite of support services within the community. The Centre is one of several programs supported and operated under Wesley Mission’s suicide prevention branch.

About the role

The Team Leader is a senior member of the Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland team. You will support Centre Management in fostering a high performance and supportive service culture, keeping the help seekers needs at the core. Supporting the management of key relationships both internally and externally, as well as overseeing key metrics of service performance.

In supporting the Centre’s expansion, the Team Leader has line management responsibilities for crisis support staff and provides front line training, development and support to the crisis supporter workforce. They drive best practice and are an experienced professional with skills and experience in crisis support service provision as well as mentoring and people development.

Essential criteria

  • Passion for suicide prevention
  • Hold ongoing full accreditation under National health, psychology, social work or counselling registration board. For example:
    • Australian Psychological Society Member or Associate membership
    • Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
    • Australian Counselling Association ACA Level 2 or higher
    • Australian Association of Social Work (AASW)
    • Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (Clinical Member)
  • Or holds a current Cert IV in Training and Assessment and is an accredited Lifeline Crisis Supporter
  • Experience leading and developing people, whilst promoting good communication and collaboration amongst a team
  • Demonstrated experience driving best practise and operational efficiencies, whilst keeping the helpseeker or clients’ experience front of mind
  • Experience providing counselling, crisis support and other therapeutic interventions
  • Experience facilitating therapeutic group programs, training and/or professional development
  • Willingness to be available on a rotating 7-day roster (1-2 weekends per month).

Desirable skills/knowledge

  • Experience supporting the delivery of accredited training or a Registered Training Organisation
  • Experience line managing and developing people.

Remuneration

Remuneration is in accordance with the position requirements and your experience. Generous salary packaging benefits are also included in addition to superannuation.
