Women’s Legal Service WA

Women's Legal Service WA

Women’s Legal Service WA is the only gender-specific community legal centre in Western Australia. For over twenty five years we have delivered state-wide specialist legal assistance to women in the areas of family law, protection and care, family and domestic violence and criminal injuries compensation free of charge.

Our tailored, needs-matched legal services model ensures continuity in support and mitigates against re-traumatising clients that present with complex and multiple legal and social challenges. WLSWA prioritise women who experience intersecting disadvantages. We provide socio-legal assistance to women in collaboration with our sector partners.

Through our community legal education and evidence-based advocacy on law and policy, we are also working towards the redress of inequalities, promotion of human rights and legal and social change for women.

Position - Pilbara lawyer

The Pilbara lawyer will continue WLSWA’s specialist service in this region, to enable and extend place-based responses and ensure that women in the Pilbara have timely access to legal assistance that can respond to their unique unmet socio-legal needs, and that local services are often not immediately equipped to deliver.

Based in the Perth WLSWA office, the Pilbara Project lawyer will provide direct legal assistance to women referred to the service through a combination of actual and virtual outreach. Travel will be a minimum of one week/month.

Criteria

We are seeking applicants who share our passion for women’s education and empowerment within the legal system. Taking initiative, problem solving and a can do attitude are also imperative and will ensure the position holder is empowered to work autonomously.

Experience in the WLSWA areas of legal practice is essential. Experience working in regional areas and in partnership with other providers will be highly regarded.

Please see attached job description for all criteria.

While this position is full-time, part-time options may be considered if this is the successful candidate's preference.

For a confidential discussion about the position, please contact Anna Farrant at [email protected] using the subject line: Lawyer - Pilbara enquiry via EthicalJobs or phone 0411 794 784.

We welcome people with diverse skills, experiences, perspectives and backgrounds and encourage applications from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples, and individuals who may identify as LGBTIQ, live with a disability, have a culturally and linguistically diverse background and people of all ages.

We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance our organisation. When you apply, please tell us the pronouns you use and any reasonable adjustments you may need during the interview process.
